![]() ![]() I don't know much about Kodi, but it would be nice if someone who uses it could chime in. It runs its mail services and its own company Web site, and stores all of its data backups on Gentoo-based computers. It uses Gentoo Linux on almost all of its back room production servers as well as most of the hosting and dedicated servers that it rents out. Plex Media Server is free and is based on OpenSource Kodi. Gentoo as a production server One company that eats its own dog food is Seven L Networks. ![]() With a Roku or Apple TV attached to your TVs (or a house full of smart TVs), you can watch a movie or listen to music in just about every room in your house. I haven't used this feature, but I understand that Plex allows you to play music files as well. I stopped using Myth when my power-source blew (the noise scared my wife who was convinced that I could get electrocuted). Oh, I also had to buy a Hauphauge Video-capture device. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to get Myth working, but it was gratifying. It ran great, but I had to pay about $2 a month to get info about Over-The-Air stations/programs. I set up a open-source DVR based on MythTV. If you don't care about over-the-air TV, then you can use plex media player for free. You can turn your fedora computer into a DVR and record and view over-the-air (via an antenna) HD TV programs by paying $5 a month or $40 a year for a Plex Pass and buying a Hauphauge WinTV device ($60 approx). Make sure you allow plexmediaserver to get through firewalld or similar. I have been using plex media server for my movie files. ![]()
